Why stage-specific matters

"Pregnancy-safe" isn't one question. It's three.

Most apps give one generic answer. BloomSafe scores every product three times, because the science is different at every stage of your journey.

Trying to conceive

Focuses on ingredients linked to fertility and hormone disruption — endocrine disruptors like certain phthalates and parabens, plus high-dose retinoids you'll want to phase out before a positive test.

Example: prescription retinoids are flagged before you conceive, not after.

Pregnancy

The strictest stage. Flags anything that can cross the placenta or has documented developmental risk — retinoids, hydroquinone, high caffeine, certain essential oils and salicylates at high doses.

Example: Red Bull drops to high caution; retinol drops to avoid.

Nursing

Focuses on what can transfer through breast milk and what sits on skin a baby touches. Many pregnancy flags relax here — and BloomSafe tells you exactly which ones.

Example: that niacinamide serum flagged in pregnancy? 9/10 safe while nursing.

Real scores from real analyses — beauty and food, side by side.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How does BloomSafe know if a product is pregnancy-safe?

BloomSafe extracts every ingredient from a product and analyzes each one using AI grounded in a curated, evidence-based database of peer-reviewed research and health-authority guidance (FDA, ACOG, NHS). You get a 0–10 safety score for each journey stage — trying to conceive, pregnancy, and nursing — plus a plain-English explanation and the sources behind every flag.

What kinds of products can I check?

Beauty and personal care (skincare, makeup, haircare, body care) plus food and drinks. You can scan a barcode, take a photo of the product or its ingredient label, or search by name and brand.

Why are the scores different for TTC, pregnancy, and nursing?

Because the biology is different. Trying-to-conceive scoring focuses on fertility and hormone disruption, pregnancy scoring flags ingredients that can cross the placenta (like retinoids and hydroquinone), and nursing scoring focuses on what can transfer through breast milk. The same product often gets three different scores.

Is retinol really unsafe during pregnancy?

Topical retinoids (retinol, retinyl palmitate, tretinoin, adapalene) are widely recommended against during pregnancy by bodies like ACOG, because vitamin A derivatives are linked to developmental risk. BloomSafe flags them automatically — including under their less obvious aliases — and suggests safer alternatives like niacinamide, azelaic acid, or vitamin C.

Does BloomSafe check food and caffeine too?

Yes. BloomSafe analyzes food and drink products for caffeine and stimulants, additives, and overall nutrition, scored against published pregnancy and nursing thresholds — for example the commonly cited 200 mg daily caffeine limit during pregnancy.

Is BloomSafe a replacement for my doctor?

No. BloomSafe is an educational tool that helps you ask better questions and make informed everyday choices. Always consult your OB-GYN, midwife, or healthcare provider for medical decisions.

How much does BloomSafe cost?

BloomSafe starts with a 3-day free trial. After that, Pro unlocks unlimited scans, full scan history, saved products, safer alternatives, and detailed scientific evidence, with weekly, monthly, or yearly plans.

Is BloomSafe available on Android?

BloomSafe is currently available for iPhone on the App Store. An Android version is on the roadmap — follow us on Instagram for updates.
